According to a recent Transamerica survey1 56% of retirees reported retiring earlier than they had planned.  Some of the reasons cited included job loss or health or family related reasons with only 11% retiring early because they had already saved enough.  

This is important because when you retire can make a big difference in your overall outcome.  Take a look at this 2 minute video link below showing the $1million difference otherwise identical retirees with a $500,000 nest egg faced based solely on when they retired.
